Youth Achievement Awards

Children who show improvement at school, at home, or in the community are rewarded with adult support and needed items such as clothing, musical instruments, karate lessons, summer camp and school supplies to name a few. Each award is based on individual needs. Here are some of the awards Rubin for Kids has given in the past.

  • An eighth grade girl with learning difficulties earned some money by staying in at recess to help her teacher. Rubin for Kids paid for her field trips and some new clothes.
  • A girl who has made “100% improvement in her attendance,” as well as being a leader in the Latina Community, was given money from Rubin for Kids to go with her teacher to buy a graduation outfit.
  • A boy with special challenges was provided with Velcro shoes to enable him to feel independent.
  • Rubin for Kids funded Comic Strip Art lessons for a Learning Disabled boy from a low-income family. This boy is very caring and often helps peers when they are having difficulties understanding English.
  • Rubin for Kids gave a girl dance lessons because she increased her attendance by 50% in just a few months. She dreams of becoming a singer or dancer.
  • A boy who recently arrived in this country and earned a 4.0 average was awarded a two night camping experience with his middle school class.
  • Middle school children who were habitually truant joined an attendance group and were rewarded with a party when their attendance improved to 90%.
  • Rubin for Kids supported the Madison Millennium Soccer Club with shin-guards and socks. This is a club for low-income elementary school students who have good attendance and grades.

Awards are made throughout the year based on nominations and administered by the Board of Directors.
